Become a paramedic

You could pursue an associate’s degree to become a paramedic before attending the fire academy. Many cities prefer to hire paramedics over other candidates, and large fire departments may require their firefighters to be certified as paramedics. Some fire departments even consider paramedics for firefighting positions, despite not attending a fire academy, because of the extensive medical training the candidate has gone through already.
